Worth the splurge!

1 Oct

Bare Minerals Make-Up

I finally found a make-up that STAYS ON!  AND doesn’t break me out!!! And the best part – didn’t even wash it off at night! (I know shame, shame on me – I hate having to wash it off before bed!  I’m always so sleepy!) However, I paid twice this price!  I took my two babies out to the mall on a Saturday and tortured the color technician by making her color match me and entertain my son!  :)  Luckily, she was a mom and didn’t seem to mind too much.  I saw this price online and just had to post it!  I definitely think it’s worth the splurge!  One of my favorite things about this company is the time they take to instruct us on how to properly apply it. Oh, and they do offer a money back guarantee.

Find out all the details here.

And just for the record, I am not an affiliate and am not compensated in any way for posting this – just really like it!!!

These are a few of my favorite things…

Goody’s Ouchless Brush

I am not affiliate of this company and am not in anyway compensated for saying that I LOVE this brush!!!  I heard about it on the Style network as the #1 best brush and I whole-heartedly agree!  It does not get tangled in my hair at all.  I have had it for at least 3 years, if not longer and it is still in perfect condition.  It doesn’t collect hair and have to be cleaned out…if you or your daughter have a tender head, this is definitely a must-have!

Getting back to my “old” self

23 Sep

I don’t want to buy new clothes while I’m trying to lose weight, so what’s a girl to do???  It really puts a damper on my mood every day to try on 5 things that don’t fit before finding one that is just a bit tight!

So once again, I’m cleaning out my closet!  I’m not getting rid of anything just yet, though.  Just putting away anything that doesn’t fit. Plus, I’m going to hit up my mama for her hand me downs. She loves to donate clothes to me. 🙂

Getting back to my “old” self

18 Sep

As you may know, I recently gave birth to my second child.  After a month of sleepless nights (and days), we have finally established something that resembles some sort of schedule.  BUT EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!  While most everything has changed for the best (children are SUCH a blessing!), my physical appearance has suffered!  I gained 38 pounds with this baby;  A little more than average, but still not as bad as what I gained with my first!  So now, one month later, I am down 21 pounds!  (It was all baby and fluids, but it is still fun to say!)

All of the extra weight, lack of sleep, lack of clothes that fit YET, and lack of time to worry about your hair, make up, and overall physical appearance can really take a toll on a mama’s self-esteem!  I know it takes time, but I am determined to gradually get back to my old self.  So, I’m adding myself into my daily routine!

Hard to do for most mothers, I know!

Plan A:

First and most obvious, I’ve decided to work on my weight.  I am changing how I eat (not dieting) and exercising daily.

To change how I eat, I am following my husband’s lead in changing how and not necessarily what we eat.  We rarely ate breakfast before, would eat a quick lunch, and then a huge supper, typically followed by a huge desert.  We are now eating breakfast, having our main meal of the day at lunch time, and a light and quick supper – enough to tide us over until morning.  We haven’t cut out anything, but have noticed that changing when we eat helps us to make better choices.  After all, who wants to stuff themselves at noon when their is still a whole day ahead of them!  And who has time to indulge in a rich desert?!?  This is definitely working, and if I need proof, I just look at my handsome husband who has lost 14 pounds at the last count (a few weeks ago).

While I am not fully cleared for a vigorous exercise program just yet, I am enjoying this beautiful weather and walking 30 minutes/day!  Also, I am actually using my Wii for something other than streaming Netflix!  I am stepping, hula hooping, and boxing my way to my pre-pregnancy weight!  The Wii Fit is an excellent way of tracking my progress and is do-able with a newborn and a toddler in tow!

How I’m working it in to the daily routine:

Changing how we eat:

Actually, cooking first thing and getting it over with is fabulous!!!  I pretty much cook breakfast and lunch simultaneously, and then when the dishes are done, the kitchen is pretty much closed for the day!  My husband doesn’t get a fresh, hot meal during the week, but this was his idea and he doesn’t seem to mind taking the leftovers the next day.  (Which also cuts down on fried foods for us!  I hate frying, and he doesn’t want fried foods as left overs, so…).  Then, on the weekends, I don’t ever mind cooking!  I look forward to making my family a meal that we all eat together!  I do really miss eating with my entire family, but I simply tell myself that eating healthier and not carrying the extra weight could possibly extend the lives of each family member!  And we find plenty of other things to do in the evenings together, too.

As soon as we eat breakfast, I get us all dressed and out the door!  I have learned through experience, that if I try to get my chores done first, we will never make it outside!  Makes it nice, because my two year old wants to do nothing more than play outside.  So once he adjusts to mommy walking up and down our long driveway, rather than following him around, he will enjoy the outside time.  For now, he’s having a hard time dealing with it and just wants me to carry him.  Pulling him in the wagon seemed to work today.  I put my newborn in a mei tei carrier, and he doesn’t make a peep!  He thoroughly enjoys being outside and getting some mommy time.

Wow!  I’m already feeling much better and getting so much more done each day!  This really seems to be working!

Taking Time for Mom

21 May

Last week went so well with my Happy Mother’s WEEK activities, that I am going to make a point to do something for myself every Friday.  Nothing huge or expensive or time consuming.  But something that has nothing to do with husbands or babies or saving/earning money or cleaning.  And it’s much harder to come up with something than I thought!  I wish I had any one of my girl friends near by so we could easily plan something – well, girly!  But since I am not spending this week, it makes it even harder.  But I finally decided –

I am taking a bath!  BY MYSELF (without my son)!!!  And reading the funny book I started reading so long ago that I cannot remember the title!  And I am going to see what I can do to sweet talk Daddy into getting my little man out of the house while I do this so that I don’t have to look at the sad little fingers reaching for me under the door the whole time!  I can’t wait!  That should be enough motivation for me to hurry up and get my chores done!

Happy Mother’s WEEK!

15 May

Well this week has been rejuvenating and eye-opening!  This will definitely be an annual tradition!  While I did spend money that wasn’t budgeted, I will be sure to budget it next year!  I have learned that it really doesn’t take much time and effort to do a little something for myself every now and then AND that no one in my family suffered for me doing so!  If anything, my mood improved and it made me more productive!

So, on my final day of my Mother’s WEEK celebration, I am loading up the entire family and going to visit one of my best friends!  A little girl time is just what I need to end a fantastic week!  And I get to see my mom (and have a babysitter) in the mix of it all, too!

Happy Mother’s WEEK!

14 May

I never got out my scrapbooking supplies yesterday.  After running my morning errands and trying to get my Thursday cleaning done, I decided instead of scrapbooking, that I would take a NAP!!!  Yes, that’s right!  And it was lovely!

So, I’ll try again today to get started on my scrapbooking!  (Unless I get sleep again!)

Happy Mother’s WEEK!!!

13 May

Being a mother is the most wonderful “job” in the world!  But it seems that one of the qualifications is “forget about yourself and put everybody/everything first”.  So this year, I am establishing the week of Mother’s Day as “Mother’s WEEK!”  Take every day this week to do something – anything – no matter how big or small, for yourself!

This Mother’s WEEK is one of the best ideas I have ever had!  It isn’t taking away from my daily responsibilities at all, but just making me manage my time a bit better to fit it all in!!!  Laundry still gets done and the closet even gets cleaned out…just while I’m watching Friends!

So today, it’s time to get to cleaning, because I have some SERIOUS SCRAPBOOKING TO DO!!!  I am over a year behind and have GOT to get busy!  I will have a new scrapbook to start in about 3 months!!!

I love Mother’s WEEK!!!

Happy Mother’s WEEK!

12 May

Being a mother is the most wonderful “job” in the world!  But it seems that one of the qualifications is “forget about yourself and put everybody/everything first”.  So this year, I am establishing the week of Mother’s Day as “Mother’s WEEK!”  Take every day this week to do something – anything – no matter how big or small, for yourself!

Our trip to the mall yesterday was FANTASTIC!!!  I bought nothing but a Chik-Fil-A milkshake!!!  But my day was made when I took my son to the play area for the very first time!  I know that isn’t technically something for me, but I am a mother!!!  It warms my heart to see my baby so happy!  We had sooo much fun!  I can’t wait to go back!

So, today it’s a Friends Season 10 Marathon!!!  It is something that I have wanted to do forever!!!  And also, something that my husband probably wouldn’t be so thrilled about doing with me.  :)  I’m already halfway through disk 1!  Phoebe and Mike are engaged!!!!  Wooohooo!!!  And I’m still laughing at Ross’s spray on tan!

Happy Mother’s WEEK!

11 May

I have to admit, there are a few luxuries that I gave up to cut back and stay home that I really miss!!!  My mani/pedi’s are one of them!!!  And while I absolutely LOVE being freshly manicured, I couldn’t help but think of all the money that we wasted before we decided that I stay home!

That being said, I have to take a moment to brag!  I HAVE THE BEST BABY BOY EVER!!!  How many almost two-year- olds do you know that will sit quietly and play and laugh in the stroller while mommy gets her nails done?!?!?!  If his little brother is half as good as him, we will have it made!!!  I’m hoping for the best, but expecting the worst.  🙂

Now, on to today’s “selfish” task:  we’re going to the mall!  Not deal chasing today, just going to go and enjoy it!  Maybe we’ll find something, maybe we won’t!  But it’s different from my usual “coupon clipping” and “deal chasing”.  I’m going unarmed!!!  FUN!
